Our programs are offered free of charge and open to all children and youth of all gender identities in North Durham (Scugog, Uxbridge and Brock).

What is a Big Brother/Big Sister Match?

The Big Brother/Big Sister mentoring program provides children and youth with a role model to talk to and share the experiences of growing up with.

Through regular outings, a relationship is developed between the mentor and the mentee, which is built on trust and common interests, and is supported by our experienced case-workers. The result is a life-changing experience for both the mentor and the mentee.

The Big Brother/Big Sister mentoring program requires weekly scheduled outings (2 to 4 hours per week) and a minimum of a one year commitment.

How do I start the match process for my child?

Becky can help you get started with the process to enroll your child in the program. After you’ve had a chat on the phone, she will provide you with an application form to complete.

Once that is complete, Becky will set up an interview with you to discuss your child and their needs. After that, if you consent, Becky will meet with your child to get to know them.

When all the pieces are in place, Becky will review our list of available Mentors and suggest a match introduction when she’s found the right Mentor for your child.

How do I become a Big Brother or Big Sister?

The first step to becoming a Mentor is to complete our Volunteer Inquiry Form and then have a quick phone chat with Becky, our Senior Caseworker. She will tell you more about the program, answer any questions, and get you started with our Volunteer Application.

The Volunteer Application and Interview help us get to know you better so that when it comes time to match you with a Little she can best match you with one that shares your interests.

The next step is to complete our Volunteer Training Program (approx. 2 hours). The training has been developed by BBBBS Canada and helps set you up for success as a Mentor.

Once you complete the training and provide a clear Vulnerable Sector Screening, Becky will review the Littles waiting for a Mentor and proceed with a match introduction.

Becky is here to help you every step of the way. She will be with you for your Match Introduction and will check in with you monthly for updates on your match.
