Communications & Events Coordinator (Full-Time)

Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Durham is a non-profit organization offering mentoring programs for children and youth ages 6–16. Our mission is to enable life-changing mentoring relationships to ignite the power and potential of young people. With volunteer-driven programs focused on positive role-modelling, we help ensure every child has a caring adult in their life.
Position Summary
The Communications & Events Coordinator leads fundraising, marketing, communications, and community engagement activities. This role develops strategic digital and print content, engages the community, coordinates events, builds community partnerships, and implements fund development initiatives including corporate sponsorships, donations, grants, and special events.
Key Responsibilities
Fund Development
- Develop and manage corporate sponsorships, business partnerships, and donor-recognition programs.
- Prepare and issue tax receipts and thank-you letters.
- Identify foundation/government grant opportunities and support proposal development.
Special Events
- Plan and manage fundraising and community events, including timelines and logistics.
- Recruit event volunteers and secure event sponsors.
- Complete post-event evaluations and make recommendations.
Marketing, Communications & Outreach
- Create and produce engaging digital and print content (social media, graphics, videos, newsletters, etc.).
- Promote agency initiatives through media outreach and storytelling.
- Enhance agency visibility and stakeholder engagement through effective communication strategies.
Community Engagement
- Build and maintain strong relationships with community partners, volunteers, and stakeholders.
- Deliver presentations and outreach activities (in-person/online).
- Participate in committee/board meetings and strategic planning.
Qualifications
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills; comfortable with outreach and public engagement.
- Experience creating digital/print materials and using social media and marketing tools.
- Creative, innovative, and able to develop communication, content, and fund development strategies.
- Event coordination experience required.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills; able to work independently.
- Valid driver’s license and access to personal vehicle (mileage reimbursed).
- Post-secondary education in communications/marketing an asset.
- 2+ years of experience in communications, marketing, fundraising, public relations, or journalism, print design, is a strong asset.
- WordPress, Microsoft Office Suite, Keela and Canva considered an asset.
